Alba vs Barcelona Preview

The weakest team in the league, Alba, will host a struggling Barcelona desperate for a win in this match.

Can the underdog pull off a surprise and make life even harder for their opponent, or will Barcelona secure a victory to stay in the fight for the top 10?

Alba Form & Team News

There’s nothing new to say about Alba this season. In terms of strength and roster quality, they are by far the weakest team in the EuroLeague, and their results reflect that.

Perhaps they could have picked up a few more wins, but overall, this is the reality. Berlin squad is firmly stuck at the bottom of the standings, just as most basketball analysts predicted before the season began.

It’s also true that they have struggled with injuries throughout the season and are only now in a position to have their full roster available.

In the last round, Alba suffered a heavy defeat on the road against Anadolu Efes, losing 98-73. It didn’t help that the hosts were under pressure to win, shifting into top gear from the very first second of the game.

If there’s anything positive to take from that match, it would be the performances of Yannick Wetzell, who scored 20 points, and David McCormack, who managed 13 points despite limited minutes due to foul trouble. Everything else was forgettable.

Barcelona Form & Team News

If someone had predicted before the season that Barcelona and Real Madrid would be battling just to make the Top 10, they would have been called crazy and told they don’t know basketball. But here we are.

Right now, Barcelona sits 11th in the EuroLeague standings with a 14-13 record, the same as their biggest rival.

Their season has been full of ups and downs. At one point, they put together a solid run, but four losses in their last five games have left them in a tough spot.

To make things even harder, they’ll have to fight for a playoff spot without Kevin Punter, Jan Vesely, and Juan Nunez, who are still recovering from injuries.

In their absence, players like Tomas Satoransky, Dario Brizuela, Chimezie Metu, and Jabari Parker–who hasn’t been nearly as good as last season–will need to step up.

Head to Head

Barcelona usually handle Alba without much trouble, but last season’s slip-up in this very arena is still fresh in memory. Many of the same players from that game will be on the court again this Friday.

Verdict

Barcelona cannot afford any mistakes in this match. Although they will be without the help of several key players, it is expected that they will tighten their ranks, play with full motivation and commitment from the first minute, and secure a victory.

Despite some fluctuations in their game, the quality gap between the two rosters is too large for this match to be uncertain.
