Olympiacos vs Partizan Preview

A storm is brewing in Piraeus as two of the league’s most in-form teams prepare for a high-stakes showdown.

Olympiacos, standing tall at the top, seek to reinforce their dominance, while their relentless opponents arrive with a mission–to claim a fourth consecutive road victory and extend their scorching run.

With one of the most feared home courts in the EuroLeague, Olympiacos will fight to protect their fortress, but the challengers won’t back down without a battle.

Olympiacos Form & Team News

Olympiacos currently appear to be the strongest contenders for the Euroleague title, although there is still room for improvement in their play.

They are on track to secure the top spot in the standings, which would give them a more favorable opponent in the playoffs.

Oly are on a four-game winning streak in the Euroleague, with their latest victims being Virtus Bologna, whom they comfortably defeated 92-70 away.

Their strength doesn’t rely on one or two players, as demonstrated in this game, where five players scored 12 points each (Fournier, Vezenkov, Fall, Milutinov, Peters), with Papanikolau adding 11 points.

On top of that, Olympiacos are still awaiting the return of Keenan Evans, who is expected to add a new dimension to their offense. Saben Lee’s debut is also expected in the game against Partizan.

Arrivals of these players should help cover the absence of Thomas Walkup, who could potentially miss the rest of the season.

Partizan Form & Team News

After a disastrous start to the season in the Euroleague with a 2-8 record, Partizan have turned things around in the following 17 games, securing an impressive 13 victories. Now, with full justification, they hold the status of potential dark horses.

This is even more impressive considering they are on a four-game winning streak on the road, including victories over strong contenders Milano and Monaco, both of whom are expected to finish high in the standings.

In the previous round, Partizan comfortably defeated Baskonia at home 86-73, with another stellar performance from Carlik Jones (21 pts, 6 reb, 6 ast) and the ever-reliable Sterling Brown, who scored 19 points with excellent shooting percentages.

We’ll see how these teams fare in Piraeus against the traditionally aggressive defense of the hosts, without the help of Isaac Bonga and Frank Ntilikina, who are still recovering from injuries.

Head to Head

The first matchup of the season between Partizan and Olympiacos went to the black-and-whites, 78-70, at a time when the Belgrade team was in a poor position with a 3-8 record. In that game, Carlik Jones was the best on one side with 15 points, while Evan Fournier led the way for the other team with 16 points.

Verdict

It might sound a bit wild to bet against a team on a four-game road-winning streak, but I’m confident that the combination of quality, solid team play, and the home-court advantage will tip the scales in this one.

On top of that, Partizan have historically struggled in the Peace and Friendship Arena, where they’ve tasted defeat in their last five visits.
