Partizan vs Crvena Zvezda Preview

The second Eternal Derby of the season in the EuroLeague comes at a crucial moment for both clubs.

Will Partizan extend their losing streak, or will Crvena Zvezda bounce back after a poor performance and a shocking loss to Maccabi Tel Aviv? One thing is certain – a fierce battle awaits us at Belgrade Arena.

Partizan Form & Team News

Despite dealing with injuries to key players, Partizan have been in top form lately, playing their best basketball of the season.

With five wins in their last six EuroLeague games, the black-and-whites have climbed to 10th place in the standings. In such a tight race, every win matters, and a victory in the derby could give them a big push up the table.

Last week, they secured their third straight win, beating Paris at home 92-86. Carlik Jones was once again the team's leader, finishing with 17 points and 5 assists, while Isaak Bonga had one of his best performances of the season with 16 points.

It’s been clear all season—when Carlik Jones is at his best, so are Partizan. His performance will be crucial, not just in this derby but for the rest of the campaign.

Željko Obradović will be without injured Vanja Marinković and Frank Ntilikina, while Aleksej Pokuševski remains questionable.

Crvena Zvezda Form & Team News

Crvena zvezda’s form has been up and down in recent weeks, but overall, the red-and-whites are having their best EuroLeague season in the last decade.

With a 13-10 record, they are part of a five-team logjam fighting for position. A win in this derby could be a huge step toward securing a top-10 spot—and possibly even more.

However, some doubts have emerged after last week’s poor performance and a heavy 85-73 loss to Maccabi in their second home. Lacking other options, coach Sfairopoulos turned to Miloš Teodosić in an attempt to spark the team, but Zvezda simply didn’t have enough players in form to compete.

The good news is that Nemanja Nedović is returning after three weeks out with an injury, and he never lacks motivation in games like this.

On the other hand, Zvezda will have to wait at least three more weeks for Mike Daum’s return. Aside from him, the rest of the squad is healthy and available.

Head to Head

This will be the sixth EuroLeague "Eternal Derby" in history, with Partizan holding a slight edge with three wins so far.

In their first matchup this season, the black-and-whites triumphed as the nominal visitors with a score of 89-77, led by an outstanding performance from Carlik Jones, who scored 21 points.

Verdict

No EuroLeague Eternal Derby so far has carried as much weight as this upcoming one. A win means a major boost, while a loss brings uncertainty for the rest of the season.

The stakes are high, and the players feel it – regardless of their experience. That pressure will likely affect shooting percentages, so I expect a game with a slightly lower score.
