Complexity have announced the benching of Ricky “floppy” Kemery, who got moved from the active Counter-Strike esports roster, on Thursday, December 12. The roster change comes shortly after Complexity’s early exit from Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024.

Floppy, who joined Complexity Gaming in January 2022, has been a key player on the North American Counter-Strike roster over the last three years, averaging a 1.04 performance rating and 1.03 on LAN.

However, despite his long stint with the team, floppy was removed from the roster after Complexity opted for some much-needed changes following a rough display at the Chinese Major.

Complexity qualified for Shanghai Major with a 3-1 record in Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024: American RMR, which gave hope the North American side could perform. Unfortunately, they failed to deliver on the big stage.

Complexity had a rough start to the Major, with losses against FlyQuest and Passion UA, and while they found some momentum with wins against Imperial Esports and Cloud9, Complexity could not make it past BIG in the deciding match, getting knocked out of the tournament in 17th-19th-place.

This was just one of many concerning performances Complexity have produced throughout the year.

The North American outfit have had their moments in 2024. They qualified for PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, where they placed ninth-11th, made the semifinals of ESL Pro League Season 19, and won ESL Challenger at DreamHack Summer 2024.

In other big events, however, Complexity failed to show much, especially after the summer player break – without a single top-five finish across seven events attended.

With floppy’s departure, Complexity broke up the original core which joined the organisation following the “Juggernaut” project – leaving Johnny “JT” Theodosiou and Michael “Grim” Wince as the only remaining players from that core.

Besides benching floppy, Complexity also released assistant coach James “JamezIRL” Macaulay, who will not continue with the team.

Complexity have yet to announce who will replace floppy; however, they have over a month to find a replacement and think about further roster changes before the start of the 2025 Counter-Strike esports season.
