Complexity and Team Liquid will face off on Friday, January 31, in Round 1 lower bracket of the Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2025 Play-In stage. It will mark their first meeting since last season and a match determining which of the two squads will be sent home.

Complexity enter this fixture billed as massive underdogs, having struggled to find the same level since the departure of EliGE this offseason. However, while Complexity have not looked the greatest, the same can be said for Team Liquid, who are 1-2 since the start of a new season.

Liquid kept most of their roster intact but have not managed to find much momentum this season. While this lineup has a high ceiling, Liquid are not there yet.

Complexity were one of the biggest losers this offseason, as they lost their best player, Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski and with that, a lot of firepower and quality, which made them somewhat competitive in 2024.

While the newest additions still need more time to adjust to the new roster, Complexity have so far looked very rough.

Since the start of the 2025 Counter-Strike 2 season, Complexity have played two games and lost both – against Virtus.pro (0-2) and, more recently, against Eternal Fire (0-2) in the first round of IEM Katowice 2025.

Complexity did force EF to overtime on Train (15-19) which is a good sign, and they showed a few good things on the map. But as it is very evident, Complexity are not quite there yet.

Team Liquid Form

Team Liquid acquired Guy "NertZ" Iluz this offseason and seemed to have upgraded their firepower. Unfortunately, Liquid have yet to showcase any notable improvement.

This season, Liquid have played three games, and lost two. They bested 9Pandas at BLAST Bounty Spring 2025 but got eliminated by HEROIC (2-1), who defeated Liquid again in the first round of IEM Katowice 2025 (2-1).

Perhaps HEROIC are Liquid's kryptonite, but it is also fair to say that Liquid have not looked the best.

Verdict

Complexity v Team Liquid

Team Liquid have not shown the best form since the start of the new season, and the same can be said for Complexity. Yet, while both teams are in shaky form, Liquid are priced as massive favourites for this match, which is mainly because they have a much higher ceiling.

That, while true, means nothing until Team Liquid start playing better. Team Liquid are shaky enough for Complexity to take a map off them.
