As the higher-ranked and more accomplished team, Fnatic are billed as the clear favourites for this series, which makes some sense. But Fnatic are prone to choking, and as a team that relies on the performances of one player a bit too much, it is tough to find a good reason to take their side at the current betting odds.

Fnatic have not had the most successful run through the 2024 Counter-Strike esports season. They have won just two tournaments this year, including RES European Series #1 and #6. More recently, Fnatic also made the semifinals of RES Regional Champions, which is one of the few other notable accomplishments.

At the recently finished EU RMR A, Fnatic placed six, with wins against Rebels Gaming, BetBoom Team, and Dynamo Eclot. Those wins are hardly worth celebrating and do not inspire much confidence, especially considering how close some of those wins were.

A big issue with Fnatic is that their success relies mostly on Benjamin "blameF" Bremer, who does most of the work in Fnatic's wins. This also explains why Fnatic have been widely inconsistent of late.

Wildcard Form

Wildcard are a surprise appearance at the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024, thanks to their miracle run in the Americas RMR, in which they finished with a perfect 3-0 record and wins against Liquid, paiN Gaming, and 9z Team.

They had a solid run in August too, albeit most of Wildcard's success came in regional competitions, so it will be interesting to see how they do against international opposition.

While a bit of an enigma, Wildcard are in good form, and that is often enough to perform in BO1 games.

Verdict

Fnatic v WIldcard

Fnatic are billed as the stronger team for this contest, which does not make much sense, considering what the two teams have shown over the last couple of months. While Fnatic have a higher ceiling, this means very little given their lack of success of late and, more importantly, their lack of consistency.

Wildcard are not one of the main candidates to make it through to the Elimination Stage, but they are in good form, and as this is a best-of-one series, taking the underdog's side at inviting betting odds becomes more appealing.

With a better map win rate on all but two maps in the rotation, Wildcard are in more than a fine spot for this fixture and an excellent bet at 2.20.
