Hanwha Life Esports enter First Stand 2025 as the reigning LoL Champions Korea (LCK) Cup 2025 champions and one of the main favourites to win the tournament, which is a fair assessment. The question is whether HLE are better than Top Esports, who are the other main favourites to claim the trophy.

Lane-by-lane, you could argue that HLE have a better roster, featuring former LoL World champions and some of the top players in the region. However, Top Esports do not lack in quality either but are a bit more volatile.

If JackeyLove and Crisp step up, Top Esports can win, and while there are no guarantees that will happen, there is also no reason to have TES priced as significant underdogs for this match.

Hanwha Life Esports won the LCK Cup 2025, which is a strong testament to how good they actually are. However, throughout the first split, they have shown some struggles when faced with other top contenders, which is mainly due to their flawed strategy.

Hanwha Life Esports tend to be more passive and wait for their opponents to blunder and build leads off that – at least, that was the case for most of the split. It is also fair to argue that Hanwha Life Esports benefited from bad performances from Dplus KIA, T1, and Gen.G.

Despite winning the regional league, Hanwha Life Esports got away with too many things for me to feel as excited about them as the market. This is a solid team but overrated.

Top Esports won LoL Pro League (LPL) 2025 Split 1 and performed admirably well. While some may argue that Hanwha Life Esports have had as tough of a schedule, that is not necessarily true, as LPL features more strong sides and is less top-heavy.

TES had a very tough schedule to make it here, and they've not displayed many weaknesses. Admittedly, they can be a bit hit-or-miss and are still the same team that can shoot themselves in the foot at any time. But there's been far less of that of late.

This is an excellent team and arguably the best-performing squad in the world.

The markets favour Hanwha Life Esports, but I would argue that the wrong team is favoured. Even though HLE deserve praise for making it this far, they have had a much easier schedule and did not look nearly as dominant domestically as Top Esports.

Admittedly, HLE should have a higher ceiling, but even that is debatable. More importantly, though, Top Esports have looked much better and more dominant in the games leading to First Stand 2025.

I like Top Esports at outsider odds.
