On Thursday, November 28, Nils “k1to” Gruhne announced he was ready to return to the competitive Counter-Strike scene after a three-month hiatus, which started after his benching from OG in August 2024.

K1to, who is mostly known for his three-year stint with BIG between 2020 and 2023, joined OG in June 2023 before the transition to Counter-Strike 2. However, he was benched from OG’s lineup in August and took a break from competing to reflect on what went wrong after a shaky run with the international lineup.
With OG, k1to has found some success early into his stint, with a top-four finish at BLAST Premier: Spring Showdown 2024 and a silver medal from Skyesports Masters 2024 in April. Over the next four months, however, OG have not come close to securing a podium finish – eventually leading to some roster changes and k1to’s benching.

He has since not played an official match, rather taking a break from competing to improve ahead of his return to pro play in 2025.

In the post on X, k1to talked about the mental drain he felt before taking a break and also touched on the work he put in over the past three months to return to pro play as a better player.

In the post, k1to also thanked OG who allowed the German player to step in as in-game leader, which came with a lot of challenges due to the constant roster changes.

The plan initially seemed clear, but the introduction of a new role, a new coach, and a different playstyle all at the same time made it a complex transition. Adapting to these changes while trying to establish myself as an IGL proved to be very demanding.

Despite these challenges, I’m grateful for the experience and the lessons it taught me. It’s an opportunity I will carry forward as I continue to grow.

K1to rounded up the post stating he feels better than ever and is ready to take the next challenge in his Counter-Strike esports career.

However, while the German player is ready to return, he is still under contract with OG – until the end of the year. This means k1to will be a free agent in 2025, allowing him to find a new team for the upcoming season.
