Team Liquid enter the Major under a close eye, as a team who have had their moments but consistently crumbled when faced with a tougher opponent. Likewise, Cloud9 have not found much success in bigger events this season, but with the players on this lineup, it is only a matter of time before Cloud9 find traction.

Expect a very competitive game, which can end either way.

This will mark the first meeting between Team Liquid and Cloud9 of the 2024 season.

Team Liquid are ranked just outside the top 10 in the global Counter-Strike rankings, which is where they deserve to be. While Liquid have proven very good at beating weaker opponents, they consistently crumble at the top level.

This does not make much sense on paper, as Liquid fields a solid lineup, yet the trend of collapsing when challenged has been going on for a while now, making it hard to believe Liquid can make it far in this Major.

At the very least, Liquid should do fine in the opening stage, yet even here, they will face some stiff opposition, such as Cloud9.

Cloud9 have not won much this season, nor have they made it very far in any bigger event. Still, Cloud9 made it through the European RMR A without many issues, ending the event with a 3-1 record, which includes wins against Nemiga, Sangal Esports, and SINNERS, and two losses against FaZe Clan – one in the fourth-place decider.

Much like Team Liquid, Cloud9 tend to perform admirably well against weaker teams but are unlikely to cause any major upsets. So when two teams with similar issues clash, it is hard to say how a match will go.

Team Liquid and Cloud9 suffer from the same weakness – they do not do well when faced with a good team but are otherwise excellent in running over weaker opponents. This creates an interesting situation and suggests that this will be a very scrappy affair – and it does not help that it is a best-of-one.

Liquid have a slight edge here, with a better map win rate on four maps in the rotation, although just a marginally better win rate on two. So, it is hard to find a good reason to take their side at 1.68.

As this looks like a coin-flip match, Cloud9 as outsiders, priced at 2.25, are the way to go.
