Karmine Corp are billed as favourites to defeat Team Liquid, which is not too surprising, as they hail from the LoL EMEA Championship (LEC), which is considered to be a stronger league than the LTA. But that means very little in the context of this match.

Team Liquid have done well domestically and are far more experienced on the international stage. Moreover, KC have not looked too great en route to the LEC trophy and are, in my eyes, a bit overrated.

Team Liquid won the LTA Split 1 without any major issues. They proved to be the best team in the league, and most of it has to do with their ability to problem-solve and fight their way out of losing positions. Not that Liquid found themselves in those situations often, though.

On paper, Team Liquid are nothing special, but on the Rift, they can perform. A lot of it has to do with their coach Spawn, who is one of the top coaches in the region and truly knows how to get his men ready for any match. Liquid play with a lot of discipline and that can take you far.

Karmine Corp won the LEC Winter split with a decisive 3-0 sweep of G2 Esports, having previously beaten the other top European contender, Fnatic. All that looks great on paper, but neither Fnatic nor G2 Esports had a good split, which makes Karmine Corp look much better than they really are.

I can give Karmine Corp props for winning the league, and they did deserve it. But statistically, they were very middle-of-the-pack, yet they found a way to collect wins.

That tells you something about Karmine Corp, but more about the other teams in the league, who failed to take advantage of KC's middling performances. First Stand is a perfect chance for Karmine Corp to prove their worth.

Karmine Corp are priced as favourites for this match, but I would argue it should be close to a coin flip. Team Liquid are very experienced and have a solid coach who you can trust will get the players ready to perform at First Stand 2025.

Admittedly, KC might have a higher ceiling, but we have yet to see their key player on the international stage, and there's a world where Caliste and Vladi collapse. With Liquid, you do not have to have the same concerns.
