Aston Villa vs Club Brugge Tips & Preview - Villa to complete the double over Belgian visitors
- Aston Villa lead with a 3-1 advantage from the first leg.
- Villa boasts strong home form and a recent unbeaten streak.
- Club Brugge pose attacking threat but defensively vulnerable; high-scoring match expected.

Aston Villa vs Club Brugge
Aston Villa hold a solid advantage as they host Club Brugge in their UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg fixture.
A comfortable away win means the Villans have one foot in the quarter-finals already, although the visitors will feel the result can be overturned. The Premier League side have been in good form lately and given their solid home form, should complete the double here.
Aston Villa Form
Astin Villa were full value for the first leg win after easing to a 3-1 victory in Belgium. They had gone into the break level after Leon Bailey's effort was cancelled out, but a late penalty from Marco Asensio secured a solid advantage.
That result extends a solid run of form for Aston Villa, who have now won four of their last five matches across all competitions, including a 1-0 Premier League victory at Brentford. Unai Emery’s men are also unbeaten in their last 15 home matches, a run stretching back to November.
An already solid attack was bolstered by January acquisitions and Aston Villa have scored in their last eight matches across all competitions. However, they are without a clean sheet in their last four Champions League matches, with three of those fixtures producing over 2.5 goals.
Club Brugge Form
Club Brugge failed to make their home leg count and now have an uphill task at Villa Park. Maxim de Cuyper's equaliser had ensured they went into the break level but they capitulated in the second half with Brandon Mechele scoring an own-goal.
The Belgians head into this clash off the back of a 3-1 victory over Cercle Brugge in a domestic fixture last weekend, ending a three-match winless run. They will take some confidence from the 3-1 triumph at Atalanta in their previous away fixture in the Champions League, although that result also ended a run of three winless matches.
Club Brugge boast some attacking quality but are often shaky at the back, a trait which has seen them score and concede in nine of their last 10 matches across all competitions. Five of the last six matches for Nicky Hayen's men have produced over 2.5 goals.
Head to Head
Aston Villa's 3-1 win in the first leg was the second meeting between both teams in this year's Champions League. Club Brugge claimed a 1-0 victory when both teams clashed in the league phase back in November.
Verdict
Club Brugge are desperate to overturn the deficit and should adopt an attacking style that could leave them even more exposed at the back. Aston Villa already capitalised on defensive errors in the first leg and should do the same here to maintain their impressive home record.
Both teams have issues at the back and having scored in the first leg, should do the same on Wednesday. Last week's fixture produced over 2.5 goals and another open contest should offer a similar outcome.
