Aston Villa vs Tottenham Hotspur Tips & Preview - Villans to compound visitors’ miserable week

- Villa aiming to capitalize on Spurs' recent struggles and take the upper hand.
- Watkins key player, scored 3 in last 5 games.

Aston Villa vs Tottenham Hotspur
Aston Villa host Tottenham Hotspur in an FA Cup fourth round clash with both teams looking to progress in the competition.
The Villans have maintained a solid home form all season and took out one topflight team in the previous round. Spurs continue to struggle and should find things difficult at Villa Park, with the hosts expected to claim the upper hand.
Aston Villa Form
Aston Villa knocked out a Premier League team in the previous round, claiming a 2-1 victory over West Ham to progress. However, their form has been a bit erratic since that result. They have picked up just one win in their last five matches across all competitions and suffered a 2-0 defeat to Wolves last weekend.
The good news for Aston Villa is that their home form remains solid and are unbeaten in their last 10 matches across all competitions at Villa Park. Unai Emery’s team have won six of the last eight in that run, including a 4-2 victory over Celtic in the Europa League.
Buoyed by their vocal home support, Aston Villa often make fast starts and have opened the scoring in three of their last four matches in front of their fans. They brought in attacking reinforcements in January with the acquisition of Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio. However, Ollie Watkins remains the biggest threat and has scored three times in the last five matches.
Tottenham Hotspur Form
Ange Postecoglou’s claim of always winning trophies in his second season now comes down to the FA Cup after Tottenham Hotspur were knocked out of the League Cup. They suffered a 4-0 defeat at Liverpool in the semi-final second leg on Thursday after claiming a 1-0 win in the first meeting.
Tottenham’s season appears to be unravelling quickly as they sit in the bottom half of the table, well off the pace in the race for European places. Their progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup was also not smooth as they were taken to extra-time before earning a 3-0 victory at Tamworth.
Things have also been difficult for Tottenham Hotspur on their travels, with three defeats from their last five away matches across all competitions. However, they earned a 2-0 win at Brentford in their last Premier League fixture and will be hoping to replicate that performance on Sunday.
Head to Head
Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur have claimed three wins each from their last six matches. However, Spurs have won the last two, earning a 4-0 away victory on their last visit to Villa Park and also winning 4-1 at home in the Premier League meeting in November.
Verdict
While both teams have had their issues lately, Aston Villa come into this one with a solid home record. The hosts should earn the win here, with Watkins expected to get on the score sheet.
Aston Villa have a habit of opening the scoring at home and should grab the first goal once again.
