Atalanta vs Bologna
Atalanta welcome Bologna to Gewiss Stadium for a Coppa Italia quarter-final clash, with a place in the last four up for grabs.
The hosts have found things a bit difficult lately while the visitors will come into this one with some confidence. Both teams appear almost evenly matched lately and could be set to produce a closely fought contest on Tuesday.
Atalanta Form
Atalanta's Serie A title push has taken a hit in the last few weeks as they have picked up just one win in the last six league matches and were held 1-1 by Torino on Saturday. Given recent trends, the Coppa Italia might be their only chance for domestic silverware this season. They picked up a 6-1 victory over lower league side Cesena in the previous round.
It is not all bad for Atalanta, who head into Tuesday’s clash unbeaten in eight of their last 10 matches across all competitions. However, Gian Piero Gasperini’s team have played out halftime draws in the last two matches in that run.
One concern for Atalanta at the moment will be their defending as they have failed to keep a clean sheet in eight of their last nine matches across all competitions. They have tried to balance things out by scoring in all nine matches while seven of those fixtures have produced over 2.5 goals.
Bologna Form
Bologna overcame a Serie A side in the previous round of the Coppa Italia, claiming a 4-0 victory over Monza to secure a berth in the quarter-finals. They also picked up a 2-0 win over Como in a Serie A fixture over the weekend.
The win over Monza in the previous round highlights Bologna's attacking quality and they have scored in each of their last 10 matches across all competitions. However, they seem to concede just as frequently and have failed to keep a clean sheet in eight matches in that run.
With the exception of Juventus, Bologna have been the draw experts in Italy this season and two of their last three matches have ended in stalemates. Vincenzo Italiano’s team have also played out halftime draws in three of their last five matches across all competitions.
Head to Head
Recent meetings between Atalanta and Bologna have been evenly split, with three wins each and four draws from the last 10 matches. Both teams have also been level at the break in three of the last four fixtures, including the 1-1 draw in their Serie A clash back in September.
Verdict
Atalanta may be a bit off colour lately but their recent form is similar to Bologna’s. There has been little to separate both teams in their recent meetings and having been level at the break in three of their last four clashes, another halftime draw is expected on Tuesday.
Both teams have quality in attack but are not too convincing at the back. They are tipped to score on Tuesday while the clash is likely to produce over 2.5 goals.
