Bilbao vs Roma

Roma travel to Spain with a slim advantage as they battle Athletic Bilbao in their UEFA Europa League round of 16 second leg.

The hosts will be confident of overturning the deficit having done some good work at home lately. However, the visitors continue to impress and should do enough to qualify, with both teams expected to show their attacking quality like they did in the first meeting.

Athletic Bilbao Form

Athletic Bilbao fell 2-1 in the first leg in Italy despite taking the lead through Inaki Williams. It was a decent performance from the Spaniards but the result means they are now winless in four of the last five matches across all competitions, playing out a 1-1 draw with Mallorca last weekend.

Despite their recent struggles, Athletic Bilbao still come into this one feeling confident having done some good work at home. They are unbeaten in their last five home matches across all competitions, with a 7-1 victory over Real Valladolid among their results in that run.

That win over Real Valladolid highlights Bilbao's attacking quality, although they have also failed to keep a clean sheet in six of their last seven matches across all competitions. The last three Europa League fixtures for Ernesto Valverde’s men have produced over 2.5 goals.

Roma Form

Roma showed great character to come from behind and win that first leg thanks to goals from Angelino and Eldor Shomurodov. They followed that up with a 1-0 Serie A victory over Empoli last Sunday, with Matias Soule's effort proving the difference.

Those two results mean Roma have now won their last six matches across all competitions. Claudio Ranieri's men are also unbeaten in their last four away matches across all competitions, although they are yet to secure a win on their travels in the Europa League.

Goals have not been a problem for Roma this season having scored in their last 12 matches across all competitions. However, they are without a clean sheet in their last three Europa League matches, with the last two fixtures in that run producing over 2.5 goals.

Head to Head

Prior to Roma's 2-1 victory in the first leg, both teams had battled to stalemates in their previous two meetings. They played out a 2-2 scoreline in a friendly back in 2019 before battling to a 1-1 draw in the league phase meeting of this season’s Europa League.
