Benfica vs Barcelona Tips & Preview - Catalans to maintain fine Cup run
- Benfica aiming to advance in the UEFA Champions League.
- Barcelona secured progression but need a top-eight spot.
- Lewandowski's goal streak a key factor for Barcelona.

Benfica vs Barcelona
Benfica will be looking to boost their chances of advancing to the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League as they host Bayern Munich.
The Catalans may be through to the next phase but still need to secure their place in the top 8. The Spaniards have done well in cup competitions lately and should have the edge.
Benfica Form
Benfica will come into Tuesday’s clash with plenty of confidence having won three of their last four matches across all competitions. They claimed a 4-0 victory over Famalicao in a Primeira Liga fixture last Friday.
The task for Benfica now will be to transmit that form to the Champion League as they are winless in three of their last four matches in the competition. Bruno Lage’s men were held 0-0 at home by Bologna in their previous fixture and are currently 15th in the table.
Benfica have also won just once at home in this season’s Champions League and were beaten 3-1 by Feyenoord prior to the draw with Bologna. However, they have won three of their last four home matches across all competitions while the form of players like Leandro Barreiro and Angel Di Maria will also give them some hope.
Barcelona Form
Barcelona are assured of progress from the group phase of the Champions League but still need to confirm their place in the top eight. Hansi Flick’s team are currently second after winning their last five matches in the competition including a 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund last time out.
The Catalans appear to be struggling in La Liga and were held to a 1-1 draw by Getafe on Saturday. However, they have shown their quality in the cup competitions lately, beating Real Madrid 5-2 in the Spanish Super Cup final and easing to a 5-1 victory over Real Betis in the Copa del Rey.
The goals have come easy for Barcelona lately, who have scored in both halves in four of their last five matches across all competitions. Robert Lewandowski is also having a good time in the Champions League and has found the net eight times already in just six matches.
Head to Head
There have been only six previous matches between both teams with Barcelona winning twice while Benfica have won just once. The Portuguese giants’ only victory came during the 2021-22 Champions League as they won 3-0 at home before a 0-0 draw in Spain.
Verdict
Benfica certainly have the quality to cause problems, especially at home but Barcelona appear to be playing at a higher level in the cup competitions. The Catalans should win this one while their goal rush should continue by scoring in both halves.
Lewandowski's run of goals in the Champions League is impressive and with Tuesday’s clash likely to produce a high-scoring outcome, he should get his name on the scoresheet.
