Brentford vs Tottenham Hotspur
Brentford host Tottenham Hotspur in an English Premier League fixture on Sunday with both teams looking to find some consistency in the league.
The Bees have found things difficult at home lately while Spurs’ recent form in the league has been troubling. Both teams have been hampered by poor defending this season and they have enough attacking quality to ensure a high-scoring encounter.
Brentford Form
Brentford got a 2-1 victory at Crystal Palace last time out in the Premier League with Bryan Mbeumo among the goals. That was only the second win in the last 10 matches across all competitions for Thomas Frank’s men who have found things difficult lately.
The Bees have also been poor at home and are winless in their last five matches at the Gtech Community Stadium across all competitions. The major problem appears to be a shaky defence that has failed to keep a clean sheet in the last nine Premier League matches.
One of the positives for Brentford is that Mbeumo continues to impress and has now scored 14 Premier League goals this season. The home team’s last four Premier League goals have been scored in the second half while seven of their last nine Premier League home matches have produced over 3.5 goals.
Tottenham Hotspur Form
Tottenham Hotspur are also coming off a win as they beat Elfsborg 3-0 to secure a top eight finish in the Europa League. It was a solid way to bounce back after suffering a 2-1 home defeat to Leicester City in their previous Premier League fixture.
Ange Postecoglou will look to use that result as a springboard to get Tottenham’s domestic campaign back on track having failed to win their last seven Premier League matches. Like their hosts, Spurs have struggled to keep things tight at the back and are without a clean sheet in those seven matches.
Tottenham Hotspur do have quality going forward and six of their last nine goals have been scored in the second half. They have also seen their fair share of high-scoring encounters, with the last two matches across all competitions producing over 3.5 goals.
Head to Head
Tottenham Hotspur have only lost once to Brentford with four wins and three draws from eight previous matches. The visitors picked up a 3-1 home win in the reverse fixture back in September, Mbeumo got the only goal for the Bees in that encounter.
Verdict
Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur need an upturn in form and are likely to go for it on Sunday. Neither defence had been convincing this season and with the last five matches between both teams producing over 3.5 goals, a similar outcome is expected here.
Both teams have quality in attack and should continue their trend of scoring after the break. Mbeumo has also scored three times in the last three meetings with Spurs and should add to his 14 Premier League goals this season.
