Espanyol vs Real Madrid Tips & Preview - Smooth sailing for Los Blancos
- Real Madrid lead La Liga, traveling to face Espanyol.
- Espanyol struggling near relegation, without a win in 8 of their last 10 games.
- Real Madrid historically dominant against Espanyol, winning 8 of last 9 encounters.

Espanyol vs Real Madrid
Real Madrid are setting the pace at the top of the Spanish La Liga and travel to Espanyol on Saturday.
Los Blancos have been cruising lately and come up against the Catalan side who are struggling this season and looking to climb out of the relegation zone. The visitors should have too much quality and strengthen their grip at the top.
Espanyol Form
Espanyol's immediate priority will be to climb out of the relegation zone as they are only one point from safety. However, their recent form does not inspire much confidence as they are without a win in eight of their last 10 La Liga matches.
The Catalans have been plagued by too many draws lately, playing out four stalemates in their last six La Liga matches including a 1-1 scoreline at Sevilla last time out. Manolo Gonzalez's team have done some good work at home and are unbeaten in their last five matches at the RCDE Stadium.
Espanyol have shown some quality going forward this season and have scored in four of their last five La Liga matches. However, they seem unable to keep things tight at the back and are without a clean sheet in their last five La Liga matches.
Real Madrid Form
Real Madrid opened up a four-point lead at the top of the La Liga table after claiming a 3-0 victory over Real Valladolid last time out. They followed up that result with another 3-0 victory over Brest to confirm their place in the playoffs of the UEFA Champions League.
Los Blancos appear to have taken their performances up a level and are unbeaten in 13 of their last 14 matches across all competitions. There have been several one-sided results in that run like the 4-1 victory over Las Palmas while Carlo Ancelotti’s team have also won both halves in their last four matches across all competitions.
As dominant as Real Madrid have been lately, their defending has not been as solid as they would like having conceded in four of their last five La Liga matches. The last six matches for the champions have produced over 2.5 goals.
Head to Head
It has been mostly one-sided in recent meetings with Real Madrid winning eight of the last nine matches against Espanyol. Los Blancos picked up a 4-1 home victory in the reverse fixture back in September.
Verdict
Real Madrid have had it smooth lately, easing past their opponents and claiming one-sided wins. Los Blancos have gotten the better of Espanyol lately with both teams scoring in the last three matches and all three fixtures producing over 2.5 goals. A similar outcome is expected here.
The champions have scored in both halves in their last five matches and a dominant win on Saturday could see them produce something similar.
