Newcastle United vs Arsenal Tips & Preview - Open contest to produce goals
- Newcastle lead 2-0 after first leg win at Emirates.
- Despite recent losses, Newcastle's attacking form remains potent.
- Arsenal unbeaten in six matches, showcasing strong away performances.

Newcastle United vs Arsenal
Newcastle United hold a decent lead as they host Arsenal in the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
The Magpies have not been at their best lately especially at home while the visitors will come into this one full of confidence. The Gunners are likely to take the game to the hosts but could be vulnerable at the back, which could see this clash produce goals.
Newcastle United Form
Goals in each half from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon gave Newcastle a 2-0 victory in the first leg at the Emirates. The Magpies were in the middle of a nine-match winning run across all competition which has since been snapped.
Newcastle United may hold the advantage ahead of Wednesday’s clash but their confidence has been dented slightly by recent results. Eddie Howe’s team have now been beaten in their last two home matches, losing 4-1 to Bournemouth before a 2-1 Premier League defeat to Fulham last weekend.
Newcastle are still a major attacking force and have scored in each of their last 15 matches across all competitions, with six of their last 11 goals at home coming after the break. Conceding six goals in the last two home matches exposes a defensive softness while their last five matches across all competitions have produced over 2.5 goals.
Arsenal Form
Arsenal have been flying high since that first leg defeat having gone unbeaten in their last six matches across all competitions, claiming five wins in that run. They will be feeling particularly confident at the moment after easing to a 5-1 victory over Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, with four of those goals coming in the second half.
The Gunners have also shown some quality on their travels and are unbeaten in their last nine away matches across all competitions. There have been 5-1 victories over Sporting CP and Crystal Palace in that run, highlighting their attacking quality.
For all of their quality going forward, Arsenal remain vulnerable at the back and have conceded in nine of their last 10 away matches across all competitions. Five of the last six fixtures for Mikel Arteta’s team have produced over 2.5 goals.
Head to Head
Newcastle United are often difficult opponents for Arsenal and have won three of the last four matches. The hosts have already beaten their rivals twice this season, winning 1-0 at home in the Premier League before the 2-0 first leg away victory.
Verdict
Having already beaten Arsenal twice this season, Newcastle United will fancy their chances despite recent results. The Gunners will also be feeling confident ahead of this one and needing to overturn a deficit, will take the game to their hosts.
Both teams have shown plenty of attacking quality and should score, with most of the goals likely to come in the second half. Wednesday’s clash is also expected to produce over 2.5 goals.
