Newcastle United vs Liverpool Tips & Preview - Reds to maintain impressive run
- Liverpool defeated Manchester City 2-0; now lead the Premier League by nine points.
- Newcastle United struggling with form; only 2 wins in last 9 matches.
- Liverpool have a strong record against Newcastle, winning last 6 encounters.
Newcastle United vs Liverpool
Fresh from their win over the champions, Liverpool will look to continue their fine run as they travel to Newcastle United for a midweek Premier League fixture.
Liverpool are looking almost unstoppable at the moment and will be keen to maintain their lead at the top of the table. Newcastle have been inconsistent at home lately and could become the latest victims of the rampaging Reds.
Newcastle United Form
Things have not been smooth for Newcastle United this season as they are struggling to put together a run of good results. They have won just two of their last nine Premier League matches and are in the bottom half of the table.
Newcastle United come into Wednesday’s match off the back of a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace last time out. A fortuitous own-goal from Marc Guehi gave them the lead but they were pegged back deep into added time.
The Magpies have also had little joy at home this season and are winless in three of their last four matches in front of their fans. They were beaten 2-0 by West Ham in their last match at St James’ Park.
Liverpool Form
Liverpool laid down their title credentials with a convincing 2-0 victory over champions Manchester City in their last Premier League fixture. Mohamed Salah struck his 11th goal of the season after Cody Gakpo had put the Reds in front.
The result means Liverpool are now nine points clear at the top of the table, a lead manager Arne Slot will be keen to extend. The defeat to Nottingham Forest remains their only blemish across all competitions this season.
With Salah leading the attack, Liverpool are among the leading scorers in the Premier League this season. The Reds have scored in both halves in three of their last four matches across all competitions.
Head to Head
Recent meetings between both teams have been one-sided, with Liverpool winning the last six matches against Newcastle United. The Reds did the double last season, winning 2-1 at St James’ Park.
Verdict
Liverpool are playing with a lot of confidence right now and appear to be cruising past their opponents these days. Newcastle United are not at their best at the moment and the Reds should take full advantage.
Goals have not been a problem for Liverpool, with Salah pulling the strings in attack. They are likely to put a few past Newcastle, who have struggled at the back.
