Nottingham Forest vs Brighton
Nottingham Forest and Brighton square off in an English Premier League fixture on Saturday with both teams looking to bounce back from defeats last time out.
The Seagulls are attempting to make a push for the European places while Forest are looking to cement their place in the top four. Both teams have good quality in attack and should serve up an open contest.
Nottingham Forest Form
Nothing seemed to go Nottingham Forest’s way last time out as they were hammered 5-0 at Bournemouth in the Premier League. They barely mustered any attacking threat and were constantly exposed at the back.
Having previously maintained a solid defensive record, that result highlighted a vulnerable side to that backline as they can be exposed by a dynamic attack. This defensive frailty has been obvious in their last three Premier League matches where they have failed to keep a single clean sheet. The last two matches have also produced over 2.5 goals.
The good news for Nottingham Forest is that the City Ground remains a fortress and they are unbeaten in eight of their last nine home matches across all competitions. The goals have also flowed freely for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men who have scored first in the last four fixtures in that run.
Brighton Form
Brighton are also coming off a defeat as they were beaten 1-0 at Everton last time out in the Premier League. They were victims of a defensive masterclass from the Merseyside club and struggled to break them down after going behind just before halftime.
Prior to that defeat, Brighton had been on an eight-match unbeaten run across all competitions. They have also shown some good form on their recent travels, winning their last three away matches, a run that includes a 3-1 victory at Manchester United.
Brighton will expect a more progressive approach from their hosts on Sunday and they have scored in all 12 of their Premier League away matches this season. However, Fabian Hurzeler’s men have conceded in nine of the last 10 in that run while six of the last eight fixtures have produced over 2.5 goals.
Head to Head
There have been 12 wins each and nine draws from 33 previous matches between Nottingham Forest and Brighton. The Seagulls battled to a 2-2 home draw in the reverse fixture in September with Forest taking the lead in that clash.
Verdict
Nottingham Forest and Brighton have caught the eye going forward this season but have shown some defensive frailties in the last few matches. Both teams are expected to score on Saturday and with three of their last four meetings producing over 2.5 goals, Saturday’s clash should serve up a similar outcome.
The hosts have a habit of scoring first at home and even grabbed the opening goal in the reverse fixture. They should continue that trend on Saturday.
