Rangers vs Fenerbahce
Rangers return home to Ibrox with a 3-1 advantage as they face Fenerbahce in their UEFA Europa League round of 16 second leg.
Although their chances are slim, the Turkish giants led by the mercurial Jose Mourinho, will come into this one hopeful of turning things around in Glasgow. It is likely to be another open contest on Thursday and both teams have the attacking quality to ensure there are goals here.
Rangers Form
It was a superb performance from Rangers in the first leg, easing to a 3-1 victory in Istanbul. They set the tone for the contest with an early strike from Cyriel Dessers and then went on to score two more goals through Vaclav Cerny after Fenerbahce had struck an equaliser.
That result means Rangers are unbeaten in four of their last five Europa League matches. However, their recent home record has been a bit suspect, with Barry Ferguson's team losing their last three matches across all competitions at Ibrox.
The manager will be keen to build on the attacking display from the first leg as Rangers have scored first half goals in their last two Europa League matches. They are also without a clean sheet in their last six fixtures in the competition while four of the last five in that run have produced over 2.5 goals.
Fenerbahce Form
Fenerbahce were left stunned by that home defeat in the first leg having looked well below their best throughout the contest. They appeared to be getting back on track after Alexander Djiku quickly cancelled out the Scottish side's early opener but failed to press further.
Manager Jose Mourinho said after the game that the clash was not over and judging by their recent form, they could still be in with a slim chance. Prior to that defeat, Fenerbahce had been unbeaten in their last 18 matches across all competitions and claimed a 4-1 victory at Gaziantep in their previous away fixture.
Fenerbahce were shaky at the back in the first leg, a regular trend in their recent matches, having failed to keep a clean sheet in four of their last five Europa League fixtures. However, they often try to balance things out in attack and have scored in the first half in their last four fixtures in the competition, all of which have produced over 2.5 goals.
Head to Head
Last week's 3-1 victory was Rangers’ first win over Fenerbahce in three matches. Both teams met during the 2001-02 Europa League, with the Turks earning a 1-1 draw in Scotland before claiming a 1-0 home victory in the return leg.
Verdict
Fenerbahce are looking to turn things around while Rangers will be keen to put the tie further beyond the reach of the visitors. An open contest is expected here, with both teams set to score and produce over 2.5 goals like in the first leg.
