Real Madrid vs Barcelona Tips & Preview - Los Blancos to edge Super Cup final
- El Clasico: Real Madrid vs. Barcelona in Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia.
- Real Madrid seeking to defend title after recent dominant victories.
- Barcelona aiming for silverware despite league woes, buoyed by recent cup wins.
Real Madrid vs Barcelona
It is the second El Clasico of the season as Real Madrid and Barcelona battle it out in the Spanish Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia.
Both teams are coming off comfortable semi-final wins but Los Blancos appear to be playing a lot better than their rivals at the moment. They will also be motivated following their defeat in the last clash in October.
Real Madrid Form
Real Madrid are looking to make a successful defence of the Super Cup having won the title last season. It was smooth sailing in the semi-final as goals from Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo helped them a 3-0 victory over Mallorca.
Results like that have been rampant for Real Madrid lately as they appear to ease past their opponents in recent matches. They claimed a 5-0 Copa del Rey Victory at Deportiva Minera before leaving for Saudi Arabia, while a 3-0 victory over Pachuca in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup is also among their recent results.
Real Madrid like to take control from the start and have scored first in four of their last five matches across all competitions. Their impressive attacking quality has also seen the last eight matches for Carlo Ancelotti’s team produce over 2.5 goals.
Barcelona Form
The cup competitions are proving to be a welcome distraction for Barcelona from their recent struggles as they come into this match with two straight wins. They eased past Barbastro 5-0 in the Copa del Rey before booking their place in Sunday’s final with a 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao.
Prior to those two cup wins, things had been rough for Barcelona, who suffered two straight La Liga defeats. Sitting third in the table, five points off the pace, Hansi Flick’s team will be keen to get their hands on the Super Cup, which could be their only chance for silverware this season.
Like Real Madrid, Barcelona have plenty of attacking quality and will be pleased to see Robert Lewandowski back among the goals after netting a brace at Barbastro. Eight of their last 10 matches across all competitions have produced over 2.5 goals.
Head to Head
Barcelona won 4-0 in Madrid in a La Liga fixture in October and also picked up a 2-1 victory in a friendly back in August. However Los Blancos beat the Catalans three times last season, including a 4-1 victory in the Super Cup final last January.
Verdict
Barcelona looked back to their best in the last two matches but Real Madrid represent a major challenge. Los Blancos are in good form and playing with plenty of confidence at the moment.
The likes of Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior, Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe appear to be building an understanding and should steer Real Madrid to victory here. They are expected to score first while Sunday’s match should produce over 2.5 goals.
