Roma need to find their spark under Claudio Ranieri as they host in-form Atalanta in a Monday night Serie A fixture.

Atalanta have been near-perfect in the last few matches, sweeping past teams with ease. The Bergamo club also seem to do well against Roma and should add to their problems in this one.

Roma continue to wait for their first win under Ranieri. They were beaten 1-0 at Napoli in their last Serie A match before coming from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League.

Both results mean Roma are now winless in their last five matches across all competitions. The capital club have also suffered five defeats in their last six Serie A matches.

Roma will take some positives from the fightback against Spurs and will be keen to put on a show for the fans in Ranieri’s first home game. However, they have lost two of their last three Serie A matches at the Stadio Olimpico.

Atalanta Form

Atalanta appear to be getting better as the season progresses and are unbeaten in their last 11 matches across all competitions. Gian Piero Gasperini’s men have picked up 10 wins in that run and are up to second in the Serie A table, one point off the pace.

The Bergamo club have been mostly untroubled in their matches and claimed a 3-1 victory over Parma in their last Serie A fixture. They followed that up with a 6-1 Champions League victory at Young Boys.

Both results highlight Atalanta’s attacking quality as there is also another 6-1 victory over Verona among their recent results. Mateo Retegui has been at the heart of it, scoring 12 times already this season.

Recent meetings have mostly been one-sided with Atalanta unbeaten in the last four matches against Roma. The Bergamo club have picked up three wins in that run and earned a 2-1 victory in the last fixture back in May.

There is such a gap in quality and performance between these two teams with Atalanta looking much better. They have also gotten the better of Roma in the last few meetings and will be feeling confident here.

Roma will be keen to give the home fans a show and could get on the score sheet on Monday. But Atalanta’s overall superior quality should give them the upper hand.
