On Monday, League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) announced the final group seeding for the season-opening tournament, LCK Cup 2025,

The tournament was first unveiled in October 2024. At the time, it was known that Gen.G would be seeded into Group Elder and Hanwha Life Esports would be seeded into Group Baron.

The rest of the teams were placed into their respective groups with a draft rather than a draw. The top two squads from the 2024 season, Gen.G and Hanwha Life Esports, got to pick which team they wanted in their group.

The picked team then chose the next to add to their group until each had five teams.

The newly-introduced tournament will start January 15, 2025, and pit all ten Korean LoL esports teams against one another in a three-stage event featuring a unique format.

Two groups of 10 teams will play single-round-robin best-of-three (BO3) fixtures against teams from the opposite group rather than within the group.

Each win will then be added to their group’s total score, with the group that secures more wins turning into Winners Group. The other group will become the Losers Group.

The separation of groups into Winners and Losers Group will come into play in the second stage, the Play-In stage, which will feature the bottom two teams from the Winners and the top four teams from the Losers Group.

The six squads will be placed into a double-elimination bracket, with all matches played as best-of-three (BO3), except for the two finals, which will be best-of-five (BO5).

Three teams from the Play-In will proceed to the playoffs, where they’ll join the top two squads from the Winners Group in a double-elimination bracket. All matches will be played as best-of-five (BO5), including the grand final.

LCK Cup 2025 is scheduled to kick off on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, with the first group stage games. The tournament will run until Sunday, February 23, when the top two sides clash in the grand finals.
