Charlton Athletic welcome Wycombe Wanderers to the Valley for their League One playoff semi-final second leg, with the tie still balanced at 0-0.

Having served up a drab encounter in the first meeting, Thursday's clash is likely to have more fire, with a place in the final on the line. The hosts will be counting on a solid home record and should have the upper hand over the visitors, who are a bit unconvincing lately.

Charlton Athletic Form

Charlton Athletic were not at their best in the first leg but will feel they had the better of the game. They had more attempts on target and drew late saves from the goalkeeper through Matt Godden and Greg Docherty.

The Addicks will take the positives from that result as they return to the Valley, which has been a fortress in recent weeks. Nathan Jones' team are on a 15-match winning run in front of their fans, claiming 12 victories in that run, including a 3-1 victory over Burton Albion in the previous fixture in front of the rain.

Godden will be ruing the missed chance in the first leg and will be keen to get it right at the Valley having scored six times in the last five home matches. The striker leads an attack that has scored first in nine of the last 11 home matches.

Wycombe Wanderers Form

Wycombe Wanderers will be disappointed after failing to make their home game count. They were largely second best in the contest and failed to create much, with Daniel Udoh’s first half effort their only chance of note.

While the performance was below their best, they remain alive in the tie and will be targeting an improved display on Thursday. However, the outcome is consistent with their recent results as they are winless in their last four matches, suffering three defeats in that run.

Wycombe Wanderers have something to build on in Thursday's clash having done some good work on their recent travels. Mike Dodd's team have picked up three wins from their last five away matches but were beaten 1-0 by Leyton Orient in their previous fixture on the road.

Head to Head

Charlton Athletic have the upper hand in this fixture and are unbeaten in six of the last seven matches against Wycombe Wanderers. The hosts have won two of the last three meetings and claimed a 2-1 in the last home meeting back in December.

Verdict

This semi-final tie is still in the balance but Charlton Athletic will be feeling confident given their recent form at home. Having also won two of the last three matches against Wycombe Wanderers, the hosts should claim the upper hand here.

Charlton Athletic have a knack for scoring first and should maintain that trend having netted the opener in four of the last six matches against Wycombe Wanderers. Having found the net six times in the last five home matches, Godden should find his range on home soil and is expected to get on the score sheet.
