A place in the last four is the prize as Denmark battle France in the quarter-finals of the UEFA U21 Championship.

Both teams have shown their attacking quality throughout the competition and could be set for a thrilling contest. However, the French appear to be building momentum as the tournament progresses and should have the upper hand here.

Denmark are enjoying a solid campaign at the UEFA U21 Championship as they qualified for the knockout stage top of Group D. They remain unbeaten in the competition and played out a 2-2 draw in their final group stage fixture after beating Ukraine and Netherlands in their first two matches. 

Beyond the tournament, Denmark’s overall form has been a bit erratic as those two wins have been their only victories in the last six matches across all competitions. Steffen Hojer’s team have been beaten twice in that run, including a 3-0 defeat to Germany in a friendly.

Denmark often adopt an open style that sees them score lots of goals but often leaves them exposed at the back. They have scored and conceded in their three matches in the competition, with all three fixtures producing over 2.5 goals. 

France U21 Form


France also qualified unbeaten for the quarter-finals, finishing second behind Portugal in Group B. Following a 0-0 draw with the Portuguese, they went on to win their last two matches, claiming a 4-1 victory over France in their final group stage fixture.

That opening fixture appears to be an outlier as France's open style of play often produces goals as they have scored in eight of their last nine matches. Eight fixtures in that run have produced over 2.5 goals while they are without a clean sheet in seven of them.

Denmark have three wins while France have been victorious twice in five previous matches. The most recent meeting between both teams was a friendly in 2023, which ended 4-1 in favour of the French.

Verdict

Denmark and France played out a five goal thriller in their last meeting and have constantly served up open contests in this competition. Both teams are expected to score here and with all three of the Danes’ matches producing over 2.5 goals, a repeat is on the cards.
 
After the stalemate in the opening fixture, France have improved as the tournament progresses. The dominant victory over Poland last time out will give them plenty of confidence and they should come out on top here.
