Southampton vs Aston Villa

Aston Villa remain in the hunt for a place in the top five and travel to already relegated Southampton for an English Premier League fixture on Saturday.

The hosts are only playing for pride at the moment and will be looking to give their fans something to cheer about in the final weeks of the campaign. However, they have been well below the required quality all season and should struggle against the Villans, who are expected to claim the win.

Aston Villa head into this clash off the back of a 3-1 defeat at PSG in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg. While they will have one eye on next week's second leg, manager Unai Emery will be keen to secure a return to the competition next season, with five slots now allocated to the Premier League.

Sitting just two points off the top five, Aston Villa are showing some good form lately, winning four of their last five Premier League matches, including a 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest. The Villans have also won four of their last five away matches across all competitions.

Aston Villa are often superior to Southampton and have won five of the last six matches. The visitors claimed a 1-0 victory in the reverse fixture back in December.

Even with the expected squad rotation ahead of the second leg against PSG, Aston Villa should still be too strong for Southampton. The Villans are expected to claim the win over the Saints, who have been well below the required quality all season.

An open contest is expected here and with both teams often seeing over 2.5 goals in the last few weeks, a repeat is on the cards. Aston Villa have scored all seven of their away goals in the last five matches after the break and could be set for a similar outcome here.
