Atletico Madrid vs Bayern Munich Preview & Tips
Atletico Madrid were held by Stuttgart in their last Champions League match as they battled to a 1-1 draw on the road in Europe.
Bayern Munich were also held in their last European game as they were forced to share the points with Arsenal in a 2-2 draw.
- Both sides shared the points in their last European outings
Head To Head
Across their eight previous meetings, Bayern have won four times, Atletico have won twice and two games have ended as draws.
Atletico Madrid Form
Atletico Madrid failed to build on their excellent 2-0 win over Manchester United in the second round of the Champions League as they were held by Stuttgart in a 1-1 draw in the last round.
While this saw Atleti end Stuttgart's two-game winning run in the competition, the Spanish side will have felt this was a chance to secure a second win pass them by. Positive for Atleti is the two-game winning run they have built heading into this one after beating Deportivo La Coruna (1-0) and Levante (2-0).
The Spanish side arrive on the back of a nine-game unbeaten run in all competitions dating back to their 2-1 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League back on September 9. Against Bayern, Atletico will have to be very strong at the back as their German opponents look to end a run of two draws on the bounce.
The pair are very well matched and will likely trade blows across this clash. While I predict that Atleti will give as good as they get, I do not back them to win this one.
Bayern Munich Form
Bayern Munich will be hugely frustrated with the start to their Champions League campaign after securing a single win across their opening three.
Their 5-0 win over Bodo/Glimt now feels like a long time ago following draws with Viking (3-3) and Arsenal (2-2). While their draw with the Gunners was a good result against a very strong opponent, they will know that their 3-3 draw with Viking was a humbling clash in which they could easily have been beaten.
It will also be a worry that the German side may be unbeaten in their last 13 in all competitions, but they have drawn five matches in this time. Four of these draws have come in their last seven, and I predict the two sides will share the points in this one.
Verdict
I am backing the pair to fail to separate themselves in a Champions League clash that sees the points shared.
