Crystal Palace vs Hoffenheim Preview & Tips
Crystal Palace are looking to make it consecutive home wins in the Europa League as they take on a Hoffenheim side that finally brought a two-game losing run in Europe to an end.
- Palace have only lost once in the competition (W1, D1, L1)
Head To Head
This will be the first time the two sides have met in a competitive football match.
Crystal Palace Form
Crystal Palace slumped to a 2-0 loss to Tottenham at the weekend as they saw a poor run of form across competitions extended. While they have lost four of their last six across competitions, they have not been too bad in Europe.
Indeed, a win, a draw and a defeat in the Europa League has kept them in the hunt for one of the top spots, although it would be getting ahead of themselves to already be thinking about automatically qualifying for the next round.
Instead, Palace will want to focus on turning one home win in the Europa League into two after their 4-0 win over Lech Poznan. Admittedly, this win was back in mid-September, but this is the first time the English side have hosted a game in Europe since then. A lack of bite in the Premier League has blighted their recent outings, but I predict that they will be better against an opponent that has lost two of their three European outings.
Hoffenheim Form
Hoffenheim have struggled to consistently win matches across competitions this season, with the side arriving on the back of two consecutive defeats.
Prior to this, they have secured three wins across competitions, but this was some major damage control after losing four successive matches prior to this run. In Europe, Hoffenheim may boast a 3-0 win over Lyon in their last match, but this came after a 3-2 home defeat to Besiktas and a stunning 2-0 loss to OFI Crete in their opener. Clearly, the travelling side are not unbeatable.
Hoffenheim arrive as the underdogs but they will believe they are right in this one. Palace are by no means destined to win this game, but based on their 100% home record in the competition and the travelling side losing two of their three, I am backing the English side to secure the points.
Verdict
I am backing Palace to secure a much-needed win as they bounce back from a poor result at the weekend.
