Fleetwood vs Arsenal Preview & Tips
Fleetwood head into their clash with Arsenal on the back of a 2-1 loss to Exeter that saw them slump to consecutive defeats in the league.
Arsenal eased past Everton in a 2-0 win in their last match as they extended their unbeaten run across competitions to five matches.
- Fleetwood have lost six of their last nine in all competitions (W2, D1)
- Arsenal's last three wins have been to nil
Head To Head
This will be the first time the pair have met in a competitive football match.
Fleetwood Form
Fleetwood arrive for this one as massive underdogs as they take on the reigning Premier League champions in their EFL Cup clash.
The fact they are so unfancied will mean that they can try to play with some real freedom as there is little pressure on them. However, their run of just two wins in their last nine in all competitions is very disappointing and means they arrive with little momentum behind them.
As with any home match against a far superior side, Fleetwood will look to keep the crowd in the game for as long as possible by pressing Arsenal and trying to force them into errors. If they can get something early then they will be tough to break down, especially if Arsenal's first team are to be rotated.
However, with their woes over their last nine in mind, I am backing the home team to slump to another defeat.
Arsenal Form
Arsenal looked good in their 2-0 win over Everton in their last outing as they built on an impressive 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich in the Champions League in midweek.
Their draw saw a three-game winning run brought to an end, but this result in Germany was excellent. Across their last four, Arsenal have won to nil three times and will be confident that they can lean on their miserly defence in this one.
The one factor to bear in mind is that Arsenal may be unrecognisable from the side that beat Everton at the weekend. Arsenal's second-string side should beat Fleetwood, but matches like this are rarely as straightforward as they seem.
Despite this, I am backing the Gunners to fire their way into the next round on the back of another strong defensive display.
Verdict
I am backing Arsenal to beat Fleetwood to nil as they move into the next round of the EFL Cup.
