Manchester City vs Brighton Preview & Tips
Manchester City are in need of a big result in midweek after they were handed their first league defeat of the season in a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa.
Brighton were also left frustrated at the weekend as they succumbed to a 2-0 loss at the hands of Liverpool.
- Brighton are winless in their last two across competitions (L1, D1)
- Manchester City have seen both teams score in their last four in all tournaments
Head To Head
Across their last 10 meetings, City have secured five wins, Brighton have won twice and three games have ended as draws.
Manchester City Form
Manchester City's perfect start in all competitions was brought to an end by PSG in the Champions League in mid-October, and they have since won twice and lost once.
Their latest defeat, a 2-1 loss at the hands of Aston Villa, saw them fail to build on a 5-1 win over AEK Athens in the Champions League in midweek, with City failing to keep a clean sheet for the fourth successive outing.
Revenge will be on the mind following a run over four without a win against Brighton, with City losing twice and drawing twice in this time. Both sides have scored in the last four meetings between the pair, and while I predict that City will win at home, they will have to pick the ball out of their own net once again.
Brighton Form
Brighton could not find a way to extend their unbeaten run to nine matches in all competitions at the weekend as they were beaten by an inspired Liverpool at Anfield.
This loss, coupled with their 0-0 draw with Jablonec in Europe in midweek, means a side that had scored nine goals across their previous two are scoreless in their last pair of matches heading into this one.
Brighton's scoring record this season has been impressive, and they will fancy themselves against a City side that have found keeping clean sheets very difficult. While I predict that both sides will score for the fifth successive meeting between the sides, I do not predict that Brighton will win this one.
Verdict
I am backing City to continue their trend of conceding in games as they get back to winning ways with victory over Brighton.
