France vs Italy Preview & Tips
France are aiming to build on their pair of battling wins over Türkiye and Belgium, with these victories sending them to the top of Nations League Group 1.
Italy bounced back from a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Belgium with a 4-1 victory over Türkiye on the road.
- France have beaten Italy without a clean sheet in four of their last five meetings
Head To Head
France have won six of their last 10 against Italy, with one game ending as a draw and Italy winning the other three.
France Form
France are on course to take maximum points from their opening three Nations League matches in 2026, with the side edging to wins over Türkiye and Belgium.
Their two previous wins have been built on scoring once and defending their own goal valiantly. Having won 1-0 twice, France have showcased a defensively sound unit that is proving tough to breakdown. Following two games with one goal scored in each, France's 6-4 loss to England in their dead-rubber match at the 2026 World Cup in July now feels like a very long time ago.
Against Italy, I predict that France will struggle to fully contain their opponents. While the Italians are not the most dangerous side when on the ball, they have scored at least one goal in their last six against the French. I back France to outscore the visitors in an entertaining match as their goal is breached for the first time.
Italy Form
Italy will have been incredibly frustrated by their limp 2-0 defeat to Belgium in their opener, with this costing them a shot at top of the standings.
Of course, they should celebrate their impressive 4-1 win over Türkiye on the road, with no away game easy to win in the top section of the Nations League. The worry for Italy will be that they still have to face the best side in France both home and away before taking on Belgium on the road. That makes this match even more important as Italy look to stay in contention for a top spot.
While I back the travelling side to get on the scoreboard, I do not predict that they will win this one. They currently sit on the outside when it comes to the truly elite nations, and I predict that France's winning mentality will help them to secure a third consecutive win.
Verdict
I am backing France to beat Italy despite failing to keep a clean sheet as they continue to dominate their Nations League group.
