Aston Villa vs Manchester City Preview & Tips
Aston Villa have been better of late after building a three-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.
Manchester City still top the Premier League standings after winning their opening seven matches of the new season.
- Manchester City have seen both teams score in their last three in all competitions
- Aston Villa have lost twice at home this season (D1)
Head To Head
City have won five of their last 10 against Aston Villa, with the latter winning four times and one game ending as a draw.
Aston Villa Form
Aston Villa began the new season in awful form as their opening four matches resulted in a single point picked up in a drab 0-0 draw with Hull City.
Along with their draw, Villa were hammered 4-0 by Brighton, slipped to a tight 1-0 loss at the hands of Arsenal and were stunned 2-1 at home by Nottingham Forest. Since then. Villa have been able to go unbeaten with wins over Tottenham (3-2) and Newcastle (1-0) sandwiching a 2-2 draw with Brentford.
Their run of seven points from a possible nine means they have moved up to 12th in the league with eight points. Positive for Villa is the fact they beat City twice last season in a very impressive run of results. However, they have lost two of their three at home in the league, and I worry for the hosts as they face their perfect opponents.
Manchester City Form
Manchester City were excellent in midweek as they bounced back from their 4-2 loss to PSG with a comfortable 5-1 win over AEK Athens in midweek.
This triumph followed on from a battling 3-2 win over Ipswich at the weekend with City building a two-game winning run. Across the season, City have won 10 of their 11 outings with both teams scoring in their last three matches in all competitions.
City will need to be at their best to ensure that their two-game losing run against Villa does not go on this weekend after losing 1-0 on the road and 2-1 at home last season. However, City arrive as the form team in the league, while they will be buoyed by their big 5-1 win over AEK Athens in Europe in the week.
While this will not likely be a simple game for City, I back them to pass this test as they extend their perfect start to eight matches.
Verdict
I am backing City to beat Aston Villa as they triumph despite having to pick the ball out of their own net.
