Chelsea vs Tottenham Preview & Tips

Chelsea were excellent in their last Premier League game as they handed Everton their first defeat of the season in a 2-0 loss.

Tottenham have notched their first win of the Premier League season after they edged to a 3-1 win over Coventry.

Across their last 10 meetings, Chelsea have won seven times, Tottenham have won twice and one game has ended as a draw.

Chelsea have been a real unknown quantity this season, with the side currently sat in fourth in the Premier League despite suffering from a handful of wobbles on the pitch.

Wins over Fulham, Brighton, Bournemouth and Everton have all been good results, and while their 2-1 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates was hardly embarrassing, they were held by Hull at home and took a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Brentford.

When the Blues have been good, they have played some fluid football that has seen them outscore each side in the league bar Manchester City and Brighton. However, with 13 goals conceded, they have one of the leakiest defences in the league.

Xabi Alonso's project at Chelsea will likely take some time to truly bed in, but the Blues have shown flashes of brilliance. Positively in this one, they will need little reason to get up for this match. They will be desperate to ensure Tottenham's first win is followed by a loss.

I am backing the Blues to help to compound Tottenham's woes as, despite conceding once again, they secure a third successive win.

Tottenham have made it two without defeat in the league after a battling 3-1 win over Coventry followed on from their 1-1 draw with Manchester United the week before.

The four points they have picked up in their last two has seen them more than double their points tally from their previous five matches. The worry will be that United have been in awful form and that newly promoted Coventry were always likely to struggle.

If Spurs can get the first goal then it will almost certainly rattle Chelsea. However, if they concede first then their less-than-stellar attack will struggle to create chances and Chelsea will likely profit again.

While I back Tottenham to get a goal in what will likely be a feisty derby, I am backing against Spurs making it two consecutive league wins and three without defeat in the competition.
