Liverpool vs Brighton Preview & Tips

Liverpool were better last weekend as they bounced back from a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Manchester City with a battling 2-1 win over Brentford.

Brighton humiliated Crystal Palace in their last Premier League outing as they stormed to a statement 5-0 win over their big rivals.

  • Brighton are unbeaten in their last five in the league (W4, D1)

Head To Head

Across their last 10 meetings, Liverpool have won five times, Brighton have won four matches and one game has ended as a draw.

Liverpool Form

Despite sitting in fifth in the Premier League, Liverpool have been enduring a stop-start campaign in which they have seen leaders Manchester City almost double their points tally.

Three wins have come alongside three draws and a single defeat, while they have been uncharacteristically poor in front of goal having scored nine times in seven league games. When the Reds have been winning, they have not been overly convincing, with neither their 1-0 win over Bournemouth nor their 2-1 win over Brentford seeing them blow their opponents away.

Incredibly, all three of their wins have come on the road, with the Reds drawing twice and losing once at Anfield. At this stage of the season, the Reds have the 18th best home record in the competition. Liverpool's 4-3 home win against Villarreal in the Champions League in midweek will buoy the side, but will the extra game hurt the Reds at the weekend?

Brighton Form

Brighton have been one of the outstanding teams this season and the surprise package of the campaign.

Five wins, one draw and one defeat has seen Brighton notching 16 points, meaning they are just five behind Manchester City at the summit. Wins over Coventry (5-0), Arsenal (3-0), Sunderland (2-0) and Crystal Palace (5-0) in their last four has seen Brighton blow the opposition away with an aggregate score of 15-0.

Brighton have won four of their last 10 against Liverpool and they will be the pick of many to secure a sixth win in eight this season. Despite playing at home, Liverpool feel very shaky on their own turf, and I back Brighton to make it five consecutive wins in the league.

Verdict

I am backing Brighton to continue their stunning start to the season as they extend Liverpool's woeful home run in the league.
