Brentford vs Liverpool Preview & Tips
Brentford took a point from Aston Villa at the weekend as they extended their unbeaten start to the season to six matches.
Liverpool saw their unbeaten league run brought to a grinding halt last week as they were beaten 3-0 by Manchester City at Anfield.
- Brentford are yet to lose in the league this season (W2, D4)
- Liverpool have failed to beat Brentford in their last two meetings (L1, D1)
Head To Head
In their last 10 meetings, Liverpool have won six matches, Brentford have two wins and two games have ended as draws.
Brentford Form
Brentford returned from the international break with a fighting 2-2 draw with Aston Villa as the side extended their unbeaten start to six games.
10 points from a possible 18 is a solid start for Brentford and, along with Manchester City and Everton, they are one of the only sides yet to lose this term. At home, Brentford have beaten Tottenham and Chelsea, while they have taken a point from Sunderland. When the traditional big-six sides have been in town, Brentford have been scintillating.
Liverpool arrive with a single loss in the league this season, but this will not worry Brentford. The home side took four points from Liverpool in their league meetings last term, while they are yet to taste defeat across their opening six.
I am backing Brentford to extend their excellent run this season as they continue to underline their quality and ability to seriously challenge the top sides.
Liverpool Form
Liverpool may have only lost once in the league this season, but they have been enduring a far from ideal start to their league campaign.
Draws with Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Fulham have seen the Reds drop points against the sides currently ranked 11th, 15th and 20th in the league respectively. Wins over Ipswich and Bournemouth feel like they have really papered over the cracks for the Reds, and these cracks were highlighted by Manchester City's second-half display in a 3-0 win for the side.
Liverpool have the quality to beat any side on their day, but there is a real lack of consistency for a side desperately looking for fluency on the pitch. A Champions League match in midweek will put minutes in the legs of many of the Liverpool players, and I predict that this will not help them as they slump to consecutive defeats in the league and successive defeats to Brentford on the road.
Verdict
I am backing Brentford to continue their excellent run of form as they hand Liverpool successive league defeats.
