Roma vs Real Madrid Preview & Tips

Roma were held in a frustrating 1-1 draw by Fenerbahce in their opening Champions League game as they failed to make a winning start to their European campaign.

Real Madrid edged past Inter Milan in their Champions League opener as they secured all three points in a 2-1 win.

Real have won five of their last 10 against Roma, with the Italians winning the other five matches.

Roma have been solid across the start of the new season, although an impressive run of wins has made way for a streak of draws.

Admittedly, draws against Inter Milan and Como have come against two good sides, but Roma will want to ensure two consecutive draws does not become three when they host Real this week. Despite their run of stalemates, Roma are unbeaten this term, winning four times and drawing three games. Clearly, the Italians have been tough to beat this season and they will look to channel this into their latest outing.

The major worry for Roma will be containing a Real attack that is filled with attacking talent. Positive is the fact Roma have kept clean sheets in two of their last three, but they have also conceded in three of their last five.

While I back Roma to give Real a good game, I do not predict that they will extend their unbeaten run to eight matches.

Real Madrid bounced back from their 2-1 loss to Atletico Madrid prior to the international break with a battling 1-0 win over Villarreal.

This win was their fourth across their last five in all competitions. While they arrive having lost two of their last three on the road, the affinity they have for the Champions League means that whatever form they are in, Real will always be a challenge in Europe.

Kylian Mbappe scored in Real's opening match in the Champions League against Inter and he will likely be the travelling side's focal point in attack. I back the striker to get on the scoresheet as the Spanish outfit secure consecutive European wins.
