Villarreal vs PSG Preview & Tips
Villarreal have had to endure a mixed Champions League campaign after securing three points from a possible nine but pushing each side they have taken on.
PSG are perfect in the Champions League and will be keen to press home their advantage as the best side in the competition.
- Villarreal have lost two of their three games with both sides scoring
- PSG have won all three of their games with both teams scoring
Head To Head
This will be the first time the pair have met in a competitive match.
Villarreal Form
Villarreal have continually proved to be a real handful for each of the three sides they have taken on in the Champions League this season, but they only have three points to show for their efforts.
Their 3-2 loss to Borussia Dortmund in Germany was a solid performance before they roared to a 3-1 win over Napoli. They then pushed Liverpool all the way as they succumbed to a 4-3 loss at Anfield. Clearly, travelling has been an issue in Europe this season, with the Spanish side scoring goals but ultimately being outscored.
Against PSG, Villarreal know that they will not be able to lean completely on a defence that has conceded eight goals in three matches. However, they will also seriously struggle to keep pace with a PSG attack that has scored 14 times in three games.
Ultimately, the Spanish side face the same problem every other side in the competition have as they battle the best team in the game.
PSG Form
PSG arrive for their fourth Champions League match of the season looking to extend their perfect run to four matches.
Wins over Slovan Bratislava (6-1), Manchester City (4-2) and Barcelona (4-2) has seen PSG seriously impress, with their wins over City and Barca seeing them dispatch two of the favourites to push PSG for the trophy this term.
The one criticism of PSG will be that their backline has failed to keep a clean sheet across their opening three. However, with PSG netting 14 times in three matches, keeping clean sheets is not the be-all and I back the travelling side to continue their trend of conceding but surging past their opponents.
Verdict
I am backing PSG to take all three points from their clash with Villarreal despite conceding once again.
