The social‑media firm owned by Donald Trump is branching into event‑betting.
In a partnership with Crypto.com’s U.S. derivatives arm, the company will introduce a prediction‑markets feature called “Truth Predict” in its Truth Social app.
The service will allow users to wager on elections, interest‑rate decisions, commodity prices and other real‑world events using the exchange infrastructure of Crypto.com.
The move positions Truth Social as the first major social‑media platform to host a fully‑integrated prediction‑market module, blending community interactions with financial risk‑taking.
As Crypto.com’s CEO Kris Marszalek put it: “This prediction markets launch...aligns perfectly with what users look for in social media—a community to engage with and seek truth."
The development reveals several trajectories. First, it indicates that prediction‑markets are being pushed into mainstream social ecosystems, potentially broadening their user base far beyond traditional hedge‑fund or crypto‑native audiences.
Second, the integration with a federally registered derivatives platform suggests a push to legitimize prediction‑markets via regulatory compliance, perhaps in anticipation of broader mainstream uptake.
Yet risks remain considerable. Prediction‑markets remain caught between gambling regulation and financial‑markets regulation; for example, a state regulator might deem outcome‑contracts as betting, rather than derivatives, triggering licensing, geofencing or restrictions.
The mix of social‑media and trading raises potentially raises several concerns as well, not just in relation to impulsive wagering, but also regarding platform designs being optimized for engagement rather than informed decision‑making.
From a crypto‑betting angle, the embedding of token‑rewards (in‑app “Truth gems” convertible into CRO token) into this model means the line between community behaviour, entertainment and financial speculation blurs.
