The top two sides in La Liga come together for what should be a scintillating game of football as hosts Atletico Madrid look to secure a win that would send them one point clear of Barcelona at the summit.

Atletico Madrid arrive for their 12th and most important match of the La Liga season looking to move above Barcelona heading into the international break.

Across their last seven league games, Atleti have won each time with five of these victories coming with a clean sheet. Their 2-0 win over Levante in their last La Liga match was a regulation win, but they arrive for this one on the back of a frustrating 2-0 home loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League in midweek.

Their inability to score against Bayern will be a real worry, with Barcelona arriving in excellent scoring form and barely conceding more than a goal per game in the league. While Atleti have the quality to challenge the home side, I predict that they will struggle against the best team in the league as they see their hopes of topping the standings dashed.

Barcelona Form

Barcelona are looking to extend their brilliant start to the season after winning 10 of their opening 11 league games and moving to the summit with 30 points.

Despite their brilliant start, Barca are only two points clear of Atleti while Real Madrid are three points behind. Barcelona will be frustrated that their excellent start has not seen them move clear at the summit, but this kind of pressure will help to ensure that Barca are forced to stay at their best.

On the road, Barcelona have been perfect. Five matches have culminated in five wins, 22 goals scored and just five conceded. Their ability to outscore the opposition has been seriously impressive, and I back them to do the same in this one.

Barcelona have won their last two matches when travelling to face Atleti, with both games seeing the pair score. I back more of the same in this one as the duo play out an entertaining match.
