Manchester United vs Aston Villa Preview & Tips
Manchester United may have beaten Roma 3-2 in the Champions League in midweek, but their woeful first-half display will have Aston Villa confident that they can extend their unbeaten run in the league to six matches.
- United have lost two of their last three at home in the league (D1)
- Aston Villa have won their last two on the road in league
Head To Head
Across their last 10 meetings, United have won six times, Villa have won twice and two games have ended as draws.
Manchester United Form
Manchester United have been nowhere near good enough in the league this season, with the side languishing in 17th with just seven points.
Their tally means they are a massive 17 short of Arsenal at the summit, while they are only two clear of bottom side Sunderland. Positive is their 3-2 win over Roma in the Champions League in midweek, but if they replicate their first-half performance this weekend, then they will lose.
While playing at Old Trafford should see United confident, they have lost two of their opening four, drawing once and securing a single win over Ipswich. United are not the team they once were, and their clash against an in-form Villa is a game I back them to lose.
Aston Villa Form
Aston Villa were brushed aside by Barcelona in the Champions League in midweek as they were beaten 3-0 in Spain. While they were completely outplayed by their hosts, the switch between facing one of the best sides in Europe and their next opponents will see a cavernous change in quality and form.
Prior to this, Villa have impressed in the league. A 1-1 draw with Fulham last weekend was frustrating, but it extended their unbeaten run in the league to five matches. Three wins over Tottenham, Newcastle and Manchester City have come alongside draws with Brentford and Fulham.
Technically better on the road with seven of their 12 points coming on their travels, Villa will be very confident. United beat Roma 3-2 in the week, but this came as the visiting side crumbled under the pressure after United scored the opener. I back the travelling side to underline their quality with a statement win over their hosts.
Verdict
I am backing Aston Villa to hand Manchester United another loss as the home side are consigned to a third consecutive defeat in the league.
