Augsburg vs Bayern Munich Preview & Tips

Augsburg return to league action with the toughest opponent they will face at home this season as they welcome the reigning champions.

Bayern Munich are aiming for a third successive win in the Bundesliga after beating Elversberg and Union Berlin in their last two outings.

Bayern have won eight of their last 10 matches against Augsburg with their opponent winning the other two.

Augsburg have been very good at the start of the new Bundesliga season after losing just one of their opening four matches.

Prior to this, Augsburg had beaten Schalke (3-0) and Eintracht Frankfurt (4-1) before sharing the points with Bayer Leverkusen. While this draw with their opponents was a solid result, it led straight into a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Werder Bremen.

Against Bayern, Augsburg boast a 2-1 win in their last meeting, but this has done little to distract from seven consecutive defeats prior to this win. There is no shame losing to the best team in Germany, and I predict that Augsburg will have to stomach consecutive defeats in the league as the visitors take all three points.

Bayern Munich Form

Bayern Munich may sit in second in the league, but their start to the season contained a very uncharacteristic 0-0 draw with unfancied Schalke in their second outing.

Aside from this goalless draw, Bayern had have hammered Stuttgart 5-1, edged past Elversberg 2-1 and then trounced Union Berlin 7-0. Trailing Borussia Dortmund by two points, Bayern will know that they will be presented with a chance to leapfrog their rivals as Dortmund do tend to fall off at different points in the season.

Harry Kane returns from England duty after scoring against Spain (once), Croatia (twice) and Czechia (three times). The English forward is in fine form at the moment after also scoring in his three matches leading up to the international break.

The pair have scored a combined 25 goals in the league this season meaning I expect goals. Bayern have also won their last four away games against Augsburg with over 3.5 goals in each. With both desperate to make a winning start on their return from the international break, I predict an entertaining match that the visitors win.
