Liverpool vs Manchester City Preview & Tips

Liverpool battled to a 1-0 win over Bournemouth in their last match as they ensured they entered the international break on the back of a five-game unbeaten run.

Manchester City are the only perfect side left in the Premier League after winning each of their opening five matches.

City are yet to drop a point in the league this season (P5, W5)

City have won five of their last 10 against Liverpool with the Reds winning three times and two games ending as draws.

Liverpool have started their season in strange form. Despite not losing a single match, they have failed to win three of their five games after drawing with Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Fulham.

By Liverpool's lofty standards, three draws in their opening five is a disappointing return but, on a more positive note, they are still unbeaten after taking all three points from Ipswich and Bournemouth. With nine points from a possible 15, the Reds are six short of Manchester City at the top of the table.

Interestingly, Liverpool's two home games have ended in draws with Forest and Fulham. While they are yet to lose at Anfield, they are also yet to host a side in the free-scoring form that City are in. Worrying will be their three-game losing run at the hands of City.

This clash will likely be very tight, but Liverpool are yet to do enough in the league to prove that they could keep a team like City quiet up front or outscore them if needs-be.

Manchester City Form

Manchester City arrive for their first game in October hoping to pick up where they left off in September, with a five-game winning run leading them to the top of the table.

Wins over Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Coventry, Manchester United and Sunderland have seen City take maximum points, but they are yet to truly convince that they can be a dominant force in the league this season.

Indeed, they left it late to come back from 1-0 down against the Cherries, they squeezed past Coventry in a 1-0 win, they needed a very controversial goal to beat United and they conceded three goals against Sunderland in an eight-goal thriller that tipped one way and then the other.

While City have had their moments in which they have wobbled in games, one constant is Erling Haaland. Haaland has scored in his last four in the league for City, while he has hit the back of Liverpool's net in their last three meetings.

Big games like this are often won on one moment, and I back Haaland to be the man to win this one for the travelling side.
